Week Eleven

She perceives that her merchandise is good, and her lamp does not go out by night’

This week is all about your confidence. The confidence in the work you are doing and knowing that it is the best you have to offer and knowing that it is enough for God. The first part of the verse for this week is ‘She perceives that her merchandise is good’. First the word ‘perceives’ is also translated as ‘taste’. So she has tried the things she gathered with her merchant ship, she has tasted the crop from her vineyard, and tried on the garments she has created for her family. She has honed each skill she possesses so she has the confidence in what is produced. I think many women have trouble in having the confidence to persevere under troubling times in today’s world. We have things we take pride in and there is always that Debbie Downer debbie-downerthat comes in and tears apart what you have worked so hard in putting together. It starts from when we are little and somehow as we get older the Negative Nellys don’t seem to grow up to be confident in what they do so they need to bring others down as well. We forget that we are God’s handmade creations. We were fearfully and WONDERFULLY made in HIS image (Psalm 139:14). In 2 Corinthians 6:18 it says that He will be a Father to us and we will be His sons and daughters. Over time being torn down we lose our confidence in the fact that we are His daughter and have the ability to create great and wonderful things.

In 1 Peter 4:10-11 we are told:

10 Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. 11 If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.

Reading this verse you should have confidence in your talents as they are gifts from God.
He isn’t going to give you a talent and there not be any quality in what you produce. That is what this Proverbs 31 woman had. She had the confidence in the talents she had becuase she knew they came from the Lord. So when you come across that ‘Hater’ you can stand confident knowing that your merchandise is ‘good’.

Now to this word ‘good’. It is the same word that is used in the beginning of creation when God sat back and looked at what He had created and said it was ‘very good’. The same word to descibe something God created and the merchandise we create is being marked with the same word! It is good. In the Hebrew it is ‘towb‘ which is also translated as ‘beautiful‘ or ‘pleasant to the senses‘. So just as we are ‘beautiful‘ to God, the merchandise we create is same kind of ‘beautiful‘. Before sin entered the world, can you imagine that kind of beauty that our perfect Creator spoke into existance? That same picture of beauty you see is the same way we need to be viewing the skills God has gifted us. Your skill or talent may not be singing like Celine Dion or creating Vincent Van Gogh paintings. They found their talent they were gifted with and had the confidence in it to excel. They ignored the Debbie Downers, Negative Nellys, and all the Haters. Find your talent that you can grow and use to benefit your family and stand in confidence with it. You were created in the King’s image with gifts that are equal to the beauty of His creation. The same beauty in the sunsets He painted is the same beauty in your talent.

Becuase I am rarely serious, I leave you with the below… When you encounter the negative people on your path, remember that Haters gonna hate! Stand in confidence of what God has created you to do.

  1. I’m behind on the blog! Trying to catch up! Just another reminder to me that I still need to work on prioritizing my time! Still thinking about what my Proverbs 31 Project could be. I think it would be neat for all of us to do a project together sometime to raise money for a specific cause at church. As for my personal project, hmm, I don’t know. As of right now, I don’t think it will involve crocheting, though I’m practicing! 😉
