‘She considers a field and buys it; From her profits she plants a vineyard.’
This week we are doing something a little different. At the start of our group I asked what you want to have accomplished by the time you blow out the candles on your last birthday cake. This week Elizabeth George spoke a lot about our dreams. I want us to go back and take some time to reconnect with the answer we had for that question. Below I have laid out some questions. I would like each of you to think about your dream or goal since we have started this book and answer the below questions. If you are willing to comment with your answers, GREAT!
- What is your dream for the future of your family?
- What have you done to take you closer to acheiving that dream?
- What are you planning to do to get closer to acheiving your dream?
- We are nine chapters into our book, Beautiful in God’s Eyes. What has been the most challenging verse to take in?
- When challenges arise, how do you handle them?
- What ideas have been new to you? What had you never realized about being beautiful in God’s eyes before?
This word ‘considers’ can be translated into purposed, resolve, or determine. Determination is defined as ‘the process of establishing something exactly, typically by calculation or research’ according to Google. When you think back on your dream for your family are you planning out how to accomplish it with this determination. Are you ‘calculating’ and ‘researching’ how to establish this dream? Our Proverbs 31 woman did. She ‘considered’ the field that she bought. Seeing how the word ‘determined’ is translated into more meaning brings a little more to the verse. She didn’t just think ‘ya know, I like that field. Maybe I should buy it?’ but she determined with planning and calculation for her family to buy it. She looked at what this would do for her family in the future. She got up early and made plans how to acheive this goal and put her plans into action. She sought council from God and her husband. That is what we need to be doing with our own goals. Go after these dreams with the same determination, taking these dreams to God first.
Matthew 19:26 tells “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” Jesus had just finished speaking to a rich man who was grieved when Jesus told him to sell all he had and give to the poor. The disciples asked Jesus ‘Who can be saved?’ and this is what He came back with. If Jesus wants more than anything for you to trust in Him for eternal life, why would He not also want you to trust in Him to give you the desires of your heart? Psalm 37:4-5 tells us ‘Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him and he will do this’. Devote your dreams to the Creator and He can make them come to fruition.
